Gets you noticed. I did test them and was able to talk receive on both. They take 8 AA batteries that are not included.
Also was able to talk a guy around 3/4 miles from me. Nothing major but worth mentioning. There is a channel selector at the top of radio and when its turned it supposed to display what your on, will only do this if you hold button on side in same time.
